I was inspired by need and this post by My Storytime Life to make a flannel for the rhyme Two Little Birds.
Two little blue birds sitting on a cloud
One named soft
the other named loud!
Fly away soft
Fly away loud!
Come back soft,
Come back loud!
I had the kids make two fists for their birds and they suited actions (and voices!) to the words.
Here are my birds and cloud.
Then I added two more verses, green birds sitting down low who go fast and slow, and black birds sitting on a pig who are small and big (we pinched our fingers together and used small voices for small, and big voices for big).
The pictures are laminated clipart (from Open Clipart Library).
Angela at Valley Storytime is hosting Flannel Friday today (thank you, Angela!). Be sure to visit the beautiful Flannel Friday Pinterest account. So Tomorrow has past roundups and the future hosting schedule, as well.

excellent idea! can’t wait to play with this…i already do the first one…you have inspired me!
Love this! Going to utilize it in my Opposites storytime next week. Am thinking of adding this last verse:
Two little red birds sitting on a cat,
One was thin and the other fat.
Fly away thin!
Fly away fa…!
And that was that! (Throw up red feathers, Meow!)
Thanks for the great ideas 🙂
