Summer storytime–Silly Dreams

For an in-depth explanation of how summer storytimes work at my library, see here.

We are using the Dream Big–Read theme this summer, so I thought it would be fun to do a storytime about dreams. But not just any old dreams–silly dreams, dreams about talking dogs, and dinosaurs that dance and eat spaghetti, and pet dragons.

Books:

Saturday Night At the Dinosaur Stomp by Carol Shields

if i had a dragon by Tom and Amanda Ellery

Dinosaur vs Bedtime by Bob Shea

RRRalph by Lois Ehlert

Songs:

My Dog Rags from Sing Along With Bob #1 by Bob McGrath

Put a Chicken On Your Head from Groovy Green by Eric Litwin

If You’re a Big Dinosaur

(tune: If you’re happy and you know it)

If you’re a big dinosaur, stomp your feet

If you’re a big dinosaur, stomp your feet

If you’re a big dinosaur, then give a great big roar (ROAR!!!!)

If you’re a big dinosaur, stomp your feet.

Swish your tail

Show your claws

Activities:

I had a dream…

We can’t do flannelboards in the summer, so I made a powerpoint activity instead. I modified a rhyme from the Dream Big–Read summer reading manual (wiggler/flannel board p. 84), and illustratrated it with appropriate clipart.

I dreamed I was someone

who swings in a tree

and eats bananas, who could that be?

A monkey!

I dreamed I was someone

who lives in the sea

and swims all day,

who could that be?

A fish!

I dreamed I was someone

who flies so free,

up in the air,

who could that be?

A bird!

I had a dream about someone

Who lives in my house

Sits sweetly on my lap…

Who could that be?

A kitty!

foam door hanger kits from Oriental Trading
